West Zone ‘C’ Division Football Boys Final

Hong Kah Secondary School’s C Division Boys football team has once again reached another West Zone final. This is the second final in three years for the Hong Kah C Division football boys. For the 2017 edition, it is a rematch from last year’s final where Jurongville Secondary School emerged victorious.

The match started amidst considerable fanfare as Hong Kah Secondary school brought along the entire secondary two cohort to lend their support for their school mates. Hong Kah started the match strongly and threatened the Jurongville defence early on but was unable to convert any of the chances. The first half ended 0-0.
The second half brought about more attacking flair as both teams were trying their best to see out the match in regular time. However, a combination of bad luck and sheer perseverance from both teams saw the match ending in a stale mate at the end of 60 minutes.

The game went into extra time without any notable flashpoints as both teams dug deep into their reserves to see out the remaining two periods of extra time. Moments away from deciding the winner by kicks from the penalty mark, a lapse of concentration in the Hong Kah defence saw them committing a careless tackle in their own penalty area. Jurongville managed to keep their composure and converted the subsequent penalty and broke Hong Kah hearts once again.

The match ended 1-0 to Jurongville’s favour and Hong Kah had to settle for silver for another agonising year. The C division team qualified for the national round for the 17th consecutive time this year and will be challenging for top honours again against the nation’s best in July 2017.
Thank you for the support.
