HKSS National B Division Football Championship

Hong Kah Secondary School clinched our third National B Division Football Championship in four years after a resounding 6-0 victory over St Joseph's Institution (SJI) at the Singapore University of Technology and Design (SUTD) field on Friday morning.

Nuri Irfan opened the scoring for Hong Kah in the 8th minute after the right-back volleyed in after a scramble in the box.

Syazwan Shukri then doubled his team's advantage after his shot from the edge of the box was deflected into the net in the 13th minute.

The pick of the goals was to come in the 34th minute when Is Hazwan Azhar scored straight from a corner. Hong Kah then added another on the stroke of half time after terrific play by Muhammad Danial Hakim saw the winger cross the ball for Joel Chng to head in from close distance.

Despite the presence of close to 800 SJI supporters in the stands hoping to witness a first football title since 1978, their team could not mount a comeback in the second half as Hong Kah added a fifth goal within minutes of the restart.

Muhammad Aidil Mazlan steered in an effort past the goalkeeper's near post in the 46th minute after capitalising on a defender's error.

Hong Kah then sealed its victory in the 72nd minute when Is Hazwan scored his second goal of the day after he skipped past two defenders before firing into the bottom corner to complete the one-sided affair.
